Good afternoon! We hope you are enjoying your day off and staying warm. We have a couple of updates for you on your snow day…
8 Period Day- Thursday, 10/31
Due to today’s (10/30) weather closure, tomorrow will be an 8 period school day.
Spirit Day – Thursday, 10/31
We’re glad our Spirit Week was last week so students could enjoy each day. Let’s continue to enjoy the season with another Spirit Day! Students may wear orange and/or black on Thursday, 10/31. Sweatpants, pajamas, athletic gear and graphic t-shirts are permitted. No leggings or shorts. We want students to enjoy Spirit Days, and we want to enjoy it with you as well.
Regarding Snow Days…
(1) Yesterday, a student asked why we (Mr. Ail & Mrs. August) didn’t cancel school. Please know that we do not make those decisions for the school district or for SkyView. We simply follow the decisions made by the district weather team. Sometimes we agree, sometimes we do not. But we will always do our best to keep our kids safe and provide them with the best education possible.
(2) As a reminder, anytime you feel that the weather conditions warrant keeping your child home, that will be an excused absence. Students will still be responsible for content and need to be working from home as much as possible, but the absence will not count against them. Given the fact that we have students who attend SkyView from Denver to Colorado Springs and from the foothills to the eastern plains, there is bound to be some variability in the weather conditions from time-to-time. We fully support the decisions you make to promote your child’s safety.
(3) We have already had 1 snow day and 1 delay this school year, and it is only October! That leaves the high school with 2 snow days to use between now and the end of May. Consequently, it may become necessary to take back some of our scheduled vacation days to ensure we meet our legal requirements for instructional minutes. We will continue to monitor things and determine if that becomes necessary. Just wanted to make you aware…

Turkeys and Black Socks
This week we have kicked off our Turkeys and Black Socks fundraiser! In conjunction with the Veteran’s Day Assembly, SkyView Academy will accept cash donations of $1, $5, $10 from students and their families to support the Turkeys and Black Socks fundraiser for Warrior’s Warehouse. The funds collected will be given to Warrior’s Warehouse to purchase Thanksgiving turkeys, other Thanksgiving meal items, and black socks for Fort Carson soldiers and their families. The soldiers that receive these donations are typically home on leave from deployment to spend time with their families for the holidays before being redeployed. Students have been asked to give their donations to their advisement teachers or the high school office. Every family that donates to the fundraiser will have their name displayed at the Veteran’s Day Assembly. Additionally, all students will be given the opportunity to write a note to a soldier. Thank you for all of your support!
